Bariatric Wheelchairs
Bariatric wheelchairs large wheelchairs for users who exceed the weight capacities of conventional wheelchairs even when they are considered heavy duty. Bariatric users exceed 350lbs in weight and require equipment which is safe and functional.
Frame - Because of the high weight capacities needed by bariatric wheelchairs they are usually constructed of steel reinforced frames which will accommodate users up to 850 pounds. Although most bariatric models are of conventional design some models will feature recline or tilt but there may be some weight restrictions. Seat widths can be up to 34" on the largest models.
Upholstery - Most bariatric wheelchairs offer only a basic selection of upholstery which is heavily reinforced.
Armrests - Armrests are usually height adjustable full lenght but other styles are available on some models.
Footrests - Footrests are conventional and some models offer elevating legrests.
Wheels & Casters - The rear wheels most commonly ordered in 22" and 24" available. The front casters are available in 6" or 8" diameters. Becasue of the weight loads tires should be solid and not air filled.
